Balintawak is the name given to the personal escrima style of Venancio "Anciong" Bacon in the first half of the 20th century. Using a single stick as its primary tool, it is a close quarters art in the "corto linear" tradition that was developed in the tight urban spaces of Cebu City making it increasing relevant and practical in our urbanized world.

Jo has been training martial arts for over 30 years and in Balintawak for over 12 years and is 3rd generation student of Grand Master Bobby Taboada under Guro Jeff Soriano
His martial arts background is in Muay Thai and Wing Chun which has become a part of his Balintawak expression as is the Taboada way.
The Empty hand system follows the balintawak system with a blending of Wing Chun and various other boxing styles ie Western, Dutch, Thai, and Filipino. The purpose was to make self defense simple and graspable and ALIVE!
